I was asked to write about my feelings on any artist that came to mind from any genre, that I felt had a negative description through the press.
Lindsey Lohan. I can not believe the way that the press exploits her bad decisions in life. I have to say however that her indiscretions are really not so minor.
Most recently in the press Was the jewelry heist. They made her out to look like an evil monster who stole a $2,500 necklace. I have to ad mitt the circumstances were very odd. When you take in the fact the her estate could have purchased the entire store, it does seem very stupid to have or buy are what ever the circumstances were in that situation.
The press exploits the artist in their every move, not just musicians either. They go after the stars as well. I'm just take a look at Sandra Bullock, that poor girl. As if Jesse James did not hurt her enough now the tabloids have to tell everyone everything. It's just not right.
I always like they way they talk up the teen favorites, for instance Miylie Cryus, better known as Hanna Montana. They way the press talks about her you would think she was some kind of teen hero and in reality her behavior has been just as sticky as some of the others I have mentioned.
What I am trying to say is that it really doesn't matter how the press describes Artists or Stars the results can be negative.
I feel that instead of trying to portray people that the press should just state the facts, leave out emotion or their bias opinion. The truth is the truth if they cut out all the bull then they will have not portrayed anyone in any way they would just be simply stating the facts. That's safe and honest. If it were more like that at the end of the day the person the press was talking about could only blame themselves.
I'm sure if I did this one correct but to me it just seems crazy to rewrite lies or negative words about anyone person. It felt better touching basis with it and explaining how I feel about it.
Every artist on the face of this planet is subject to random verbal bashing. Do I agree with it? No. That is just the way it is. I mean expression is a form of art right? Well isn't there constitutional laws protecting the right to art, sure, but the same location of those laws is also the location for the laws protecting the press. Really you can not win for losing. This is life the way that it is and I presume the way it will remain. :)

Warning lables....
Should record companies be responsible for putting parental advisories on the music they distribute?
Well, on that question yes. Yes I feel that record companies should use parental advisories on the music they distribute. I feel that for the parents out there that take accountability for being parents, have the right to be informed of what their son or daughter may be listening to, therefore enabling them to make decisions as to what type of music is appropriate for their age groups.
That being said, it is my personal opinon that these advisories are not as effective as the public would like to believe. Meaning; If little Timmy got his grandma to take him to Best Buy to purchase a Cd that is explicit and the Cd has an advisory, chances are Grandma will not let little Timmy buy that Cd. Timmy goes home, jumps on the web and downloads the CD. Now little Timmy is listening to that very music grandma did not approve of, despite the advisory.
I feel that record companies do not take little Timmy into consideration. Matter of fact I feel they only care about little Timmy's money. Rightfully so, they are in the business to make money. Nobody said they had to be morally correct. Usually people who like to make money, also like to keep their money. I feel they use the advisories to thwart any legal issues that may arise. It is a known fact that sense music has evolved we as parents have tried to blame our children's behavior on music. I think it's brilliant to put that advisory on the CD, from a legal standpoint. Their defense is simply " We told you that you were taking piousness fruit from the tree. You chose to take it anyway." Despite the nature or content of the Cd we warned you, that it is not suitable for children.
I really do not care for music that has explicit content. I would like it if my children did not listen to that kind of music either, however I can only really control what I am listening to. I feel that parents as a whole need to stand up and address the underlining issues that their children are having. This is were bad behavior is derived from. Not someones right to free speech. If Parents would stand together as a whole and stop looking for reasons as to why , and deal with the issues at hand that the violence in our young society will decrease.
I agree with Rosen, music is an outlet from the soul to the guitar, the mic, the piano, the violin, the flute etc.... It is an expressive tool. Everyone has the right to that.
Music doesn't make anybody do anything that they don't want to. I asked my mom how she felt about that. She told me back in the 70's when pot, was the thing to do, that her and her friends would be smoking and thought it was cool to listen to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon. She preceded to tell me that this music set the tempo. I laughed, and said,"Mom Pink Floyd didn't tell you to smoke the joint. The joint told you to listen to Pink Floyd." She began laughing and said," well I guess your right. The music I thought was just cooler to listen to stoned." Note my Mom does not smoke marijuana, today.
How do you feel about music and it's ability to make us do something?

Influenced or not?
Well, I have to say that my own beliefs on this subject are contradicting.....
I believe that every person has the ability to control themselves. I believe that when someone falls off of the deep end, that they meant to do exactly that. I have used in some instances excuses of, I" I couldn't help it, all I saw was red" or " What did she expect after pushing me like that? " I have to admit however that my exact thought at the moment of violence were thought out and well calculated. Meaning I knew what I was doing and even more so I knew it was wrong.
Do I agree with music that contains vulgar or violent lyrics? No I do not, however that just does not give me the right to judge people that do.
I have raised my children correctly with great moral instinct. I know they know the difference between right and wrong.
If my son were to go out tomorrow and murder someone I could not stand by him and agree that because he listens to Tech Nine, Ice Cube, 2-PAC, Easy E and other artists that have explicit lyrics, he murdered.
When we are talking about children we have to remember that they are impressionable, this is where I contradict. When they are listening to music with violence for lyrics then they are lead to believe that this behavior is not only acceptable but also rewarding. They are drawn into this fantasy that living as a gangsta is the thing to do.
I believe that this all comes down to moral value. If you are a person woman, man or child with morals you will not lead your life in that fashion.

Bloom.
"It is their passion; nothing else excites them as it does; they cannot take seriously anything alien to music."
Cited from Allan Bloom
I truly do believe that this is a huge generalization. I feel that Bloom draws his conclusion from bias experiences with the age group he describes. I feel that he puts to much on his examples. I love Music, truly. While attending church I was not dying to be plugged back into my music. Rather I would listen to the sermon and enjoy the Gospel music.
I can however see where he is coming from. I look at the T.V. I see Hanna Montana, High School Musical, Fame, Rent. In Instances such as these, I can see his thought process of,
"It is their passion; nothing else excites them as it does; they cannot take seriously anything alien to music."
I can see how young adults and children can loose their selves in music, wheter it be a comfort zone, a way to release anger or hurt, a motivator. I just can't see it taken to the degree he is describing unless, they are pursuing a serious career in the music industry. So I believe that one can detach themselves at anytime from their passion, without losing their passion for that thing.
I have a friend. Her name is Maria. She owns her own hair salon. It's called Team Works. It is here in California City Ca. I really like Maria she has a way with people. She is amazing when it comes to helping people feel good about themselves. She is always willing to go the extra mile in helping create what ever her client feels is beautiful. She does really nice things for her clients as well. I always she her studying on new hair styles and techniques. I watch her do things within the community that involve things like free hair cuts, or makeovers for those who feel they need it. Well, one day while sitting in her chair letting her rock on my hair. I asked her," Maria this must be your passion?" She kinda giggled, and said," yeah it would look like that, but my passion is the lord." That sounds kinda weird huh. I just said," cool ,"and kept the conversation going. Later that night our conversation was replaying in my head. I was touched when It dawned on me what she was saying. Her love for the Lord, her passion for the Lord, is what drove her to give back. So while people can see only what she is doing or may be involved in they can not see the underlining reason.
I do agree with Blooms discussion on education. I do believe it refines us as humans and people. I have to say that i do appreciate some of his other notions as well. I like his view on Music and the soul. I tend to agree that a person who has music in their lives are Happier.
Music makes me feel happy. I like it, I would rather live with than without, But I could. At that point I'D JUST SING TO MYSELF :)
